Bavuma has a way to go to equal my 53-ball 0 not out. I was batting out for a draw for Sheffield Collegiate against Harrogate in the Yorkshire League. I think it’s still a club record!

    Singo, Edinburgh

30 balls before scoring? Temba Bavuma is an amateur compared to you, Singo. And what a club record to hold!

What both innings have lacked is that nobody actually has taken the initiative. When Head came in that started to get some momentum and even Smith started playing some shots. I think I’ve just justified Bazball to myself.

This is proper Test Cricket - not that 500-3 at the end of day one we saw a couple of weeks ago.

Steve Smith has taken on the role of chief cheerleader in the slips.

Temba Bavuma drives and misses and the ball goes through to Alex Carey. Smith gives bowler Josh Hazlewood an encouraging round of applause.

Bavuma is 25 balls into his innings and yet to score.

With 20 minutes to go, if Australia get another wicket, it is obvious who is in charge of this game.

    It has yo-yoed all day.

Rabada strikes Australia again with clinical five-for

Is this a bad pitch? Too bowler friendly?

Not really... according to CricViz's expected score model, which is similar to football's xG, Australia should have been 167-6 when they were bowled out for 212. South Africa, wobbling on 26-3, should be 42-2. Difficult, yes... but certainly not impossible.

South Africa are a little on the back foot with 26-3. Suddenly 212 seems high.

So far, John, your prediction is looking good. But be warned, plenty of people will be bookmarking your post for tomorrow in case South Africa start clicking with the bat.

Captain Temba Bavuma is the latest batter to be given a lifeline. His edge is just short of the slips.

Can I just highlight my own comment at 15:52 BST? ‘Let’s be honest we’ve all seen Australia bowl at Lord’s before. 200 is likely plenty’.

On today's evidence I am not to sure if Mulder is the best batter to be batting at three.

He's pitched up and he's bowled him all over the place. Mulder is out. That was decisive.
